This is a guide on a marvel vehicle with an unpronounceable name. Meet the German Tank Destroyer Rheinmetall-Borsig Waffentrager, or simply “Borsch”.

Tank nicknaming

Due to the pronunciation difficulties of foreign words, the CIS region community gave slang naves to many tanks in WoT. Some of these names derive from the past (e.g. the “King Tiger” name emerged during the WWII), while some of them simply sound similar to the names of the tanks. Of the three German words Rheinmetall, Borsig and Waffentrager Russian-speaking tankers chose “Borsig” that sounded like “Borschik” a diminutive form of “Borsch”, a Ukrainian soup popular in Eastern Europe. While it is almost impossible for a foreigner to pronounce “Borsch”, it is a “tasty” word for every tanker of the CIS region.

The German Tank Destroyer of the 8th tier has powerful gun, mounted on the rotating turret. Great view range and great camouflage factor make Rhm.-Borsig Waffentrager a very dangerous enemy. However, this TD has poor armor and can be easily damaged upon spotting.



The project of the Rheinmetall-Borsig company was developed within the framework of bid on the construction of a special artillery carrier. The goal was to create a vehicle, which would enable to both transport an artillery system and shoot directly from the chassis. The construction widely used the details of the SPG Hetzer’s bogie. The tank was being developed from late 1942 till middle 1944. However due to the construction complexity, high price and big weight, the preference was given to the project of the company Ardelt.
Many projects were introduced, however all of them remained on paper, while the guns applied in a game are real:
  • 12,8 cm PaK 44 (germ. 12,8 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 44, 12,8 cm antitank gun of 1944) is a heavy antitank gun, used by ground forces of Germany during the final stage of the WWII. It had no equal at the shooting range and damage in the world during the war. However substantial weight and size nullified these advantages.
  • 150 mm heavy field howitzer of 1918 (germ. 15 cm sFH 18) used during WWII. Number 18 denotes the date of the development. However this date is a fake (development of artillery systems was strictly forbidden to Germany under the Versailles Treaty, thus the number 18 was intentionally engraved on the gun to mislead the foreign commissions).

Rhm.-Borsig Waffentrager is a first class ambush fighter. Outstanding view range and camouflage factor enable you to shoot the enemy from a far distance, not being detected. The turret facilitates the switch of the firing from one aim to another without moving the suspension, which is advantageous for camouflage. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of the “Borsch”:



  • The availability of 2 great equal guns for different styles of the game
  • Fully rotating turret
  • Low silhouette and great basic camouflage
  • The best view range of the level
  • Good dynamics



  • A very poor armor: high-explosive hits bring full damage
  • Open deck, high vulnerability to critical hits
  • High vulnerability of the engine
  • Small mass and high vulnerability to ramming
  • Low damage and long shell traverse of the 150 mm gun
  • Small elevation arc



Crew of the “Borsch” compounds of 4 people: Commander, Gunner, Driver and Loader.

Choose perks as follows: 

  • Commander should learn Sixth Sense, Camouflage and Brothers in Arms.
  • Gunner should learn Camouflage, Deadeye and Brothers in Arms
  • Driver should learn Camouflage, Clutch Braking and Brothers in Arms
  • Loader should learn Camouflage, Adrenaline Rush and Brothers in Arms
  • You can also learn perks which improve view range (Situational Awareness and Recon) or Repair by all members of the Crew.

Equipment, consumables and ammunition

The tank not moving much and its main goal being damage from far away, you need to install the equipment as follows:


  • Rammer to increase the shooting speed
  • Binocular Telescope to increase a view range when the tank stands still
  • Camouflage Net to improve camouflage


Binocular Telescope can be replaced by Coated Optics, if you have upgraded Situational Awareness and Recon, or if you prefer to frequently move around the battlefield. 


Install standard consumables: Small Repair Kit, Small First Aid Kit and Automatic or Manual Fire Extinguisher, the latter being obligatory.

Note that gun 12,8 cm Kanone 44 L/55 is better for random battles, thus we will speak about the ammo for this gun. The ammo consists of 30 shells which is enough for the whole battle. The 264 points hit of the Armor Piercing shell is enough for bringing damage, thus you need to mostly load them. For critical situations use 9 Armor Piercing Composite Rigid (APCR) Shells. Don’t forget 1 High Explosive (HE) Shell to protect the base. We have the following set:

Use in the battlefield

As it has been mentioned above, Rhm.-Borsig Waffentrager is a great ambush fighter. Our task is to bring damage from afar, remaining undercover. Take the positions, in which it will be hard for your enemy to detect you, while playing in the open maps. Greenery is your No 1 ally. Having hidden in great bushes, you can bring much damage, not being spotted.


While playing city maps, remain in the second or even the third line behind your allies. Your pasteboard tank might be destroyed upon being spotted. You can also try hiding behind the embankments etc. Stick out your gun with a turret, shoot and then hide at once behind your cover.

Rheinmetall-Borsig Waffentrager in Team Battles

Borsch” is the only TD which can be used in team battles. The turret, great damage and small size enable this vehicle to be included to the set-ups of the teams. Substantial one-time damage can change the course of a battle any moment or surprise the enemy, but long-term reloading will exclude the vehicle from the battle for a long time.


If you have decided to use “Borsch” in your set-up, you need to keep the vehicle in the last line of the offensive. Try to make damage for sure, as in this case you will be the main damage dealer. The miss can be inexcusable, as during your reload the enemy team will have an advantage of 1 tank, and will obtain opportunity to attack the tanks of your allies and will definitely win the fight destroying your reloaded “Borsch” in the very end. If you expose your tank or get spotted, you will be immediately destroyed, your team being destroyed afterwards.


The set of equipment, consumables and ammunition is different to those in random game.


Note, that you should pick 15 cm Pak L/29.5 gun in team battles. It requires Rammer to be obligatory installed along with Enhanced Gun Laying Drive and Camouflage Net. Take the following consumables: Big Repair Kit, Big First Aid Kit and Chocolate. You will require High Explosive Anti-Tank Shells as many as possible. High Explosive Shells will be effective only against an easy set-up. Therefore you can load 5 HEs. We’ll have a following build-up:
